Tony, Robert and Geary’s wives were also a pleasant addition. Butch’s better half was busy taking care of our food needs and unable to attend, although close by. (Thank you, Carol!)
We had one guest present, a previous guest but always welcome member of the City of Durango General Services Department as I recall, Frank Taylor, Police vehicle Mechanic.
Charlie Taylor took a wrong turn and almost (but not quite) missed the meeting.
Dave Bouslaugh unfortunately did miss the meeting, but through no fault of his own. He had a breakdown en route and missed our “luncheon”. Sorry Dave, your absence was noted by all.
Our meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. Geary Parsons presided over the meeting.
New business was somewhat light, other than welcoming our new member. Brian Jacobs from the Fort Lewis College Police has joined our ranks. Welcome Brian!
We’re still looking for ideas on raising funds for our Blue Knights Chapter. Skip Amos suggested that he had a knife collection that he would be willing to donate several knives if a raffle might be held next year, to go along with the possibility of having a poker run.
Possibly selling some “Guardian Bells” (which protect riders against road gremlins) was also suggested.
There was one comment made which might be beneficial to all. Geary Parsons suggested that he drives with his headlights on “high” beam during the day, as they’re more noticeable than low beam. Certainly worth considering.
Our next meeting was suggestion without disapproval, to be at Christina’s again in Durango on 9-14-08 at 3:00 p.m.
Our meeting was adjourned and we drove up to the lookout point above McPhee Lake, beautiful spot that you can see a great deal of what has been claimed to be the second largest lake in Colorado.

We also discussed the possibility of our Chapter hosting a poker run as a fund raiser in 2009, maybe during the Labor Day weekend. This was discussed and considered a good suggestion by members present. The thought was that it would take some hours of preparation and some volunteer time by members, but it was thought to be a possible way of putting some funds in our dwindling bank account.
